Private Jet Evacuation Charter Cost in Saudi Arabia, 2026

Charter rates out of Saudi Arabia rose more than 50% after a Houthi strike on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh

At Jet & Beyond, we track what private jet charters cost, and the Saudi Arabia case reported on October 20, 2026 is the live example of a crisis price jump. Prices jump because each flight carries extra costs to get the aircraft into position, and demand piles onto the few airports still open.

What Evacuation Charters Cost in a Crisis

Reported quotes put a 14-seat charter from Al Qassim Airport to Geneva at about 94,000 euros (about $105,000), up about 57% from 60,000 euros. The Financial Times reported the Saudi figures, and a Herald Corp article dated October 20, 2026 relays that reporting.

These are quotes from specific brokers and a chief executive officer (CEO). They are not a published price list, and each row below is one reported figure.

Route or aircraft Before Now Source
14-seat charter, Al Qassim Airport to Geneva 60,000 euros 94,000 euros (about $105,000), up about 57% Broker LuxJets
Flights to Europe Not reported As much as $150,000 Charles Robinson, CEO of EnterJets
Short flights to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Not reported $30,000 to $50,000 Reported figure
War-risk insurance surcharge, one-way flight on an 18-seat jet Not reported Can reach $20,000 Reported figure, roughly 10% of total operating costs
Charter rates out of Saudi Arabia Not reported Up more than 50% Reported after the Houthi attacks

Only the Geneva row has both a before figure and an after figure. The reported rise on that route is about 57%. The $150,000 figure for Europe sets an upper number with no route or aircraft attached to it.

Why Private Jet Evacuation Charter Cost Jumps

Four factors push quotes up: positioning legs, war-risk insurance, crew duty limits, and demand that concentrates at airports still open.

Positioning Legs Are Billed to the Customer

An aircraft that flies in empty to collect you is flying a positioning leg. Empty positioning legs are billed to the customer, so the cost of getting the aircraft to your departure airport ends up on your invoice. Ask the broker or operator to list each positioning leg on the written quote, with its cost.

War-Risk Insurance Adds a Surcharge

The reported war-risk insurance surcharge for a one-way flight on an 18-seat jet can reach $20,000. The report puts that figure at roughly 10% of total operating costs.

The reported figure covers one-way flights, so ask the broker for the round-trip figure. For insurance questions beyond this surcharge, our private jet insurance page is the internal starting point.

Crew Duty Limits Can Add a Crew or a Stop

Crew duty-time limits cap how long a crew can work. A long or delayed evacuation leg can need a second crew or an extra stop. Ask whether the crew plan for a long leg is already in the quote or would be added later. Ask who holds operational control of the flight. The operational control guide covers that topic.

Diverted Airports Concentrate Demand

When one airport closes, demand moves to the airports still open. The reported Saudi case shows that pattern. King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh closed, more than 5,500 commercial flights were cancelled at major Saudi airports since the closure, and stranded executives and residents travel more than 320 kilometers (km) north to reach private jets at Al Qassim Airport.

Who Can Still Get an Aircraft

In the reported case, people reach private jets in two ways. They travel to Al Qassim Airport, more than 320 km north of Riyadh, or they drive overland to Bahrain or Qatar and fly out from there.

The strike on King Khalid International Airport came on October 8, 2026, local time. The airport has been closed since October 10.

Al Qassim Airport is the only departure point in the reported case with a before and after price, the Geneva charter. The report gives no price for the drive to Al Qassim, no price for the drive to Bahrain or Qatar, and no travel time for either drive. Add those drives to your plan before you ask for a quote. Ask for the all-in figure from the airport you will actually leave from, and ask where the aircraft is coming from. The report also does not say which entry rules apply at Bahrain or Qatar.

What Jet Card Terms Say About Surge Pricing

Jet card terms cover peak-day surcharges, callout time, and any clause on conflict zones. Check the contract wording before assuming a program covers an evacuation flight.

Peak-day surcharges on jet card programs run 10% to 30%. Programs range from no peak days to lists of more than 50 dates, as the jet card comparison shows. In the third quarter (Q3) of 2026, jet card peak days averaged 45.3, up 24.0% from 36.5 in the third quarter of 2025, per our Q3 2026 jet card prices data.

Callout time is the notice a guaranteed aircraft requires, and it is often 24, 48 or 72 hours. It is longer on peak days, so ask the operator how much longer for your dates.

Operators can refuse to fly into conflict areas, and an aircraft owner or insurer may bar it. Read each program’s refusal and restricted airspace wording in the jet card comparison terms, and ask how the contract handles those refusals. Check the fuel surcharge terms in the jet card fuel surcharge guide for any extra charge the contract adds.

Questions to Ask a Broker or Operator Before You Pay

  1. Ask for a written all-in quote that names every line: the flight, each positioning leg, war-risk insurance, and any surcharge.
  2. Ask whether the quote includes war-risk insurance, and what amount it adds.
  3. Ask who holds operational control of the flight. The operational control guide covers that topic.
  4. Ask what happens if the departure airport closes before the flight, and get the refund terms in writing.
  5. Ask whether the operator will fly into both the departure and arrival airports, and whether an owner or insurer could bar the aircraft.
  6. Ask how crew duty limits affect a long leg, and whether a second crew or an extra stop is in the price.
  7. Ask for the callout time and the peak-day rule that applies to your dates.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do evacuation charters cost more?

Four general factors push quotes up: positioning legs, war-risk insurance, crew duty limits, and demand concentrating at airports still open. Charter rates out of Saudi Arabia rose more than 50% after the Houthi attacks, according to the Financial Times reporting relayed by Herald Corp. Ask the broker which drivers apply to your quote.

What is war-risk insurance?

In the reported figures, it is a surcharge that can reach $20,000 for a one-way flight on an 18-seat jet, roughly 10% of total operating costs. Ask the broker or operator how the surcharge is set and whether a round trip carries it. Also ask whether it is in the written quote, and for how much.

Does a jet card guarantee an aircraft in a crisis?

Check the contract before assuming a jet card guarantees an aircraft during a crisis. Callout time is often 24, 48 or 72 hours, longer on peak days, and operators can refuse to fly into conflict areas. Read the terms in the [jet card comparison](/jet-cards/compare-jet-cards/) before you rely on a card for an evacuation.

Can a private jet fly out of a closed airport?

Ask the broker or operator whether a private jet can depart from a closed airport. King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh has been closed since October 10, 2026. In the reported case, people reached private jets at Al Qassim Airport, more than 320 km north, or by driving to Bahrain or Qatar. Ask the operator whether another airport will accept the flight.

Is a government evacuation an alternative?

Follow your own government's travel advice, and ask the broker or operator what options apply to your departure airport.

Before you accept a private jet evacuation charter cost quote, ask for it in writing with every line named, from the departure airport you will actually use.
