Why the G700 Replaced the G650

Gulfstream stopped building the G650 in February 2025 and moved the G700 and the longer-range G800 into the top two slots of its lineup. The G700 sits at the opposite end of that spectrum. Gulfstream does not publish a list price, and market reporting puts a new G700 in the high $70 millions to around $80 million. The order backlog has run several years, so a delivery slot functions as its own form of currency. There is no meaningful pre-owned market yet, since aircraft only began reaching customers in 2024 and early positions rarely resell at a discount while new deliveries are still years out. Choose the G650ER if you want the most capability for the money, available this month, backed by a fleet of more than 400 aircraft with a mature pre-owned and charter market behind it. It is the default recommendation for anyone who does not have a specific, named reason to prefer the G700.

Choose the G700 if the extra 10 feet of cabin length is the actual reason you are shopping in this class, not a nice-to-have on top of range you were already going to get from a G650ER. A private fifth zone for sleeping, a dedicated crew suite on 14-hour legs, or wanting factory-new everything with a full warranty are all legitimate, specific reasons. Wanting “the newer one” without a concrete use for the extra space is not.

Who This Is Not For

Neither aircraft is right for a buyer or charterer whose longest routine leg runs under about 4,000 nautical miles. Below that distance, a super-midsize jet like the Bombardier Challenger 350 covers the same trip for well under half the hourly rate, and the ultra-long-range cabin never gets used for what it was built to do. If cost per mile in this exact class is your priority over cabin width, the Gulfstream G550 is also worth pricing, since it charters for noticeably less than either the G650ER or G700 on routes under about 6,750 nm. And the G700 specifically is the wrong choice for anyone who needs a tail in the next few months rather than a multi-year order position, since new-build lead times rule out near-term delivery entirely.
